The True Lenovo

The story of Lenovo anno 2012 – How to run a Business Down the Drain

I got my new T400 in the spring 2010.

1. After two months, it crashed. First the hard drive was replaced. I still crashed. Thereafter the machine was sent to Lenovo Norway for repair, where they replaced the mother board.
2. The machine worked fine until December 2011. One day it would not connect to my external monitor and my docking station. However, I could still write on it and receive and send mail.
3. January 18 the machine was sent to Lenovo Norway for repair. The Norwegian office forwarded the machine to the Czech republic.
4. After about two weeks I got the machine in return. It would still not connect to a external monitor/projector.
5. On March 2 the machine was sent to Lenovo Norway again, and forwarded to the Czech Republic
6. From the Czech republic I was informed that as the machine had been repaired three times, I was entitled to have a replacement.
7. On March 7 I was contacted by Lenovo UK with the following message:

I am in charge for the complaint raised for your Think Pad T400 system issue.
I have reviewed your case and requested approval for replacement and I will let you know the next steps in the best delay.

In the meantime, could you please confirm delivery address for replacement unit?
Could you also provide us with collection address (if different from the delivery address) and contact phone number (for the courier).

They are asking for my address, which they already had.

8. After some back and forth regarding configuration, I told them that I only needed a machine with US Windows and a Norwegian keyboard.
9. The same day, I got a mail from Lenovo Germany with the following message:

MKCL Deutschland GmbH has been charged by Lenovo to take care of the handling of your faulty Lenovo device. We will contact you shortly to inform you about the further processing. I have requested replacement machine for you, our service partner MKCL will contact you regarding machine configuration and also to arrange collection.

Warranty will be transferred from the faulty unit onto new one, please send me serial number of replacement machine once you receive it.

10. On March 9 I was contacted by the German office asking for the collection date for the old machine. However, the machine had been sent from me on Mach 2. The obviously didn’t know.
11. On March 12 I was asked to give all configuration data to Lenovo Germany. It was not clear to me what “all configuration data” was, and the machine was no long in my possession.
12. Om March 13 I got another request for the configuration data.
13. On March 22 I was told by the German office that they could not provide me with a T400. However I could get a new T420. I accepted the office. The machine should be shipped directly from Lenovo. I of course thought that the machine would arrive from Mastemyr as the machine was in stock there. Nope, I got a TNT tracking number as the machine was to be delivered from China.
14. The following day I checked the number. On March 30 the machine had arrived at Wiesbaden.
15. On April 2 I contacted Lenovo Germany. They promised me that the machine should arrive to my home office within two days.
16. On April 3, I used the tracking number again. It was still at Wiesbaden.
17. On April 12 I contacted TNT. In the reply they told me that the machine was sent back to the sender.
18. The same day, I contacted Lenovo Germany. They were sorry, but to get further with my case they needed a number. The same number as they had sent to me, a number they obviously did not have.
19. I sent them the number, and I was told that machine should be at my place at the end of the week. This message I got Thursday night.

So here I am. No machine in sight yet and I wonder what kind of company I’m dealing with. And I don’t know why I’m bothering writing all this mails.
I probably should have said bye bye Lenovo and bought myself a HP.
